Anatolian Rug with Geometric Motifs

Traditional Turkish carpets and rugs are woven products based on the weaving tradition brought by the Turks who migrated from Central Asia to Anatolia, manufactured by knotted and pile weaving. The reason for the initial development of carpets in Central Asia is the nomadic steppe culture of the Turks, where their primary economic activity was livestock farming. The main raw material for carpets is usually sheep’s wool. Gördes knots were used in the technical aspect of carpet making, and wool was the preferred material. The elements that adorn the background consist of geometric motifs and stylized plant motifs. The motifs in Turkish carpets are symbolic representations of events or objects that the weaver has designed or wishes to convey.
